about

The multi-talented king-of-collaborators Bret Harold Hart brings his latest experimental collection to life through Spectropol. As with other Hart projects, this is a hybrid, with prog, jazz, rock, ambient, and noise elements worked in with a kind of electroacoustic improv perspective. There's a playfulness in many of the tracks here, an invitation for things to happen, an attitude of exploration that provides no shortage of great moments!

'DUBBLE-THUD: Music for Home-Recordist & Guests'
***************************
1. EXHALING THE PAST … 4m36s

*********************
3. RAKISH BOY … 5m06s
Years ago, Eugene Chadbourne invented an instrument known as ‘the electric rake’, made by attaching an electric guitar pickup & neck to an ordinary metal leaf rake. A deliberate improvisational challenge. The remnants of his first rake were given to me by Bob Jordan. This composition was built upon looped sounds that can be gotten from the parts of that classic homemade instrument.
BHH: detached guitar pick-up with 20’ cord/Ebow/bass/organ/loops
Bob Jordan: abraded objects/metals
Mark Stanley: guitars
*******************
4. THUMPY … 5m10s
A rabbit’s thuggish brother-in-law.
BHH: guitars/bass/loops
Greg Segal: drums and percussion
Dave Newhouse: keyboard
*******************************
5. CLACKING AT THE CLICKING … 4m10s
“Get over it.” – G. Segers … Guy is right.

Billzilla: thudz

***********************
6. MOTHRA WAKES … 9m47s
The City is at the mercy of a gigantic insect… once a slow flightless larvae; now, a massive winged adult. Mothra glides like a meat-tornado over the landscape, creating a destructive windstorm in her wake. Troops march into formation, playing battle hymns, yet their weapons are having little effect, it is not looking good for The City this day.
BHH: Telecaster/parade drum sample/loops/tape of marching feet
Ken Hyder: Highland snare
Ross Davison: chanters and bagpipes
Mitch Ahern: ‘The Harrow’
Mark Stanley: guitar
**************************************************
7. GUERNICA … 4m36s
In 1981, a Syracuse, NY band of mine called The Blunt performed their instrumental reaction to
the famous Pablo Picasso painting, ‘Guernica’, a graphic reaction to fascist violence toward a Basque city in Spain. I am revisiting ’Guernica’ in 2016 America … also a violent time with fascism on the rise. I wanted this to sound like a horse & a man, both with broken legs, trying to get up.
BHH: guitars/bass/Ebow
Jim Gass: drumming
Dave Newhouse: saxes/bass clarinet/snare/parade drum/keyboard bass
Mark Stanley: guitar
*****************************
8. HERBIE BLOOD SHARROCK … 3m25s
In 2005, I was working closely with Ohioan Eric Wallack on some improvised duets recordings.
This multi-tracked song did not find a home then.
BHH: Telecaster/bass/ electronic drum programming
Eric Wallack: Les Paul solos throughout/reeds
Mark Stanley: guitars
