"Magnetic Appeal” was composed in 2013 while I was a member of Chicago’s FROG ensemble. I recorded myself playing each of the Javanese gamelan instruments one at a time in the rehearsal room, (Celempung, Kempul, and Gambang) and then produced the piece using the samples I had recorded (with additional accordion) at home.  The sound world of this piece is one that deliberately seeks to evoke a certain phenomenologically surreal experience: One where the listener becomes aware of the subtly-shifting passage of time while simultaneously developing a memory of the sonic material and how it changes within the piece.
